Everything You Wanted To Know About The Super Visa

Ottawa: The first applications for the recently announced Parent and Grandparent Super Visa started in Dec.2011.

The Parent and Grandparent Super Visa is one element of Phase I of the Action Plan for Faster Family Reunification, announced in November by the Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. The Super Visa will allow applicants to remain in Canada for up to 24 months at a time without the need for renewal of their status.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

Be a parent or grandparent of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;

Provide a written commitment of financial support from their child or grandchild in Canada, including proof that the child or grandchild meets the minimum necessary income (Low-Income Cut-Off);

Complete the Immigration Medical Examination;

Submit proof that they have purchased comprehensive Canadian medical insurance, valid for at least one year; and

Satisfy the visa officer that they meet all other standard admissibility criteria.

Current processing times through the Family Class indicate that many parents and grandparents could wait for eight years or more to be accepted to Canada. With the Super Visa, they could be enjoying the company of their family in about eight weeks.

Applying for a Parent and Grandparent Super Visa

Requirements
An application for a Parent and Grandparent Super Visa is made using the Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada[IMM 5257] form.

In addition to the information required for completing the IMM 5257, the applicant must also provide proof of the parent/grandparent relationship to the Canadian citizen or permanent resident and a signed letter pledging financial support to the parent/grandparent for the duration of their visit to Canada by their child/grandchild.

Evidence of the family’s ability to provide that financial support must be submitted with the application. The ability to support visiting parents/grandparents is based on a minimum necessary income (known as the low-income cut-off, or LICO). The chart below is also used to determine an individual’s ability to sponsor family members through the Family Class. The minimum necessary income is updated each year on January 1^st.

The applicant must also submit proof that they have purchased Canadian medical insurance that:

.      is valid for a minimum period of one year from the date of entry to Canada;

.      provides a minimum of $100,000 in coverage; and

.      covers the applicant for health care, hospitalization and repatriation.

·The applicant must also meet all standard admissibility criteria. There are a number of reasons you can be found inadmissible, denied a visa and refused entry to Canada.

·In order for the visa officer to determine whether the applicant is medically admissible to Canada, the applicant will also be required to undergo an Immigration Medical Examination (IME) prior to being issued a Super Visa.

For parents and grandparents already visiting Canada

·Parents and grandparents who are currently in Canada may apply for an extension of their status for up to two years by submitting an Application to Change Conditions, Extend Stay or Remain in Canada (IMM 1249) to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta, as long as they meet all the criteria. These applications will be examined on a case by case basis.

For parents and grandparents from visa-exempt countries

·Parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents from a country whose citizens are not required to have a visa to enter Canada are also eligible to enjoy the Super Visa’s authorized stay of two years. They may apply at a Canadian visa office (no fee required) and demonstrate that they meet all of the requirements for the Super Visa.

·If the applicant has met all the criteria, they will be issued a letter by the visa office that the applicant will present to a Canada Border Services Agency officer at the port of entry upon their arrival in Canada. The officer may authorize a visit to Canada for up to two years.

What makes you resident?

• If a person stays in India for more the 182 days for the current financial year
• If you stay in India for at least 60 days in India during the current FY and have stayed in India for at least a total of 365 days during the four previous FYs, then you are a resident.
• However, the criteria of 60 days are extended to the first criteria of 182 days for any one of the following instances:
  • 1. If you reside abroad for the purpose of employment.
  • 2. If you reside abroad as the member of the crew of an Indian ship.
  • 3. If you are an Indian citizen or a person of Indian origin who comes to India on a visit.
• If you are an NRI, only your income from India will be taxed. You don’t have to pay taxes on income earned abroad, even if you remit this income to India.
• An Indian citizen leaves India for the purpose of Employment, Education or Staty with parent, at the moment when he is leaving the India he becomes the NRI. In this case when the return period is un-certain then he will be considered as an NRI.

DC says he has no authority to cancel Sadique’s certificate

Chandigarh, May 17
A month after the SC Commission directed the Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana to cancel the Scheduled Caste certificate issued to Mohammad Sadique, the bard-turned-Congress legislator from Bhadaur, the DC has referred the matter back to the Directorate of SC and ST Welfare, Chandigarh.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari said the authority to cancel the certificate rested with the state board constituted for the welfare of SCs and BCs.
“The board will conduct an indepth inquiry into the issue. It will issue a show-cause notice to the candidate and give him time to file a representation and appear before the board. If he is found practising Islam as his religion, his certificate will be cancelled,” Tiwari said.
Lakha Singh, Deputy Director, Welfare Department, said they were yet to receive any communication from the DC.
The SC Commission had on April 24 directed the DC to cancel Sadique’s certificate as he was a Muslim and could not be certified as an SC. It had also directed that all such certificates issued earlier be cancelled and the compliance report sent every month.

Sadique won from the Bhadaur (reserve) seat defeating retired bureaucrat Darbara Singh Guru in the recent assembly poll. Guru challenged his election in the High Court, saying that Sadique was not eligible to contest from the Bhadaur (R) seat as he was a Muslim. Interestingly, the commission had directed the DC to cancel Sadique’s certificate despite a set procedure in such cases. Sadique says he is being targeted as he had defeated an Akali heavyweight and a senior bureaucrat.

Plan panel okays Rs 14,000-cr outlay for Punjab

Planning Commission nod for cancer hospital in Malwa; water-logging, depleting water table to be dealt with
New Delhi, May 14
The Planning Commission today approved an annual plan outlay of Rs 14,000 crore for Punjab for the 2012-13 financial year. The amount has been hiked by 10 per cent as compared to last year's outlay of Rs 12,800 crore.
The plan was finalised at a meeting, attended among others by Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, in the national capital. The commission also focused on problems plaguing Punjab, prominent among them being cancer, depleting underground water table and water-logging in the Malwa belt.
Union Minister of State for Planning Ashwani Kumar announced the initiatives at a press conference. He said: “It has been decided to provide financial and technical support to the state for setting up a cancer research institute in the Malwa region on the lines of TATA memorial institute in Mumbai.” The rising cancer cases were on the mind of both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, he said.

Kumar said an expert committee headed by Mihir Saha, a member of the Planning Commission, would look into the problems of water-logging, depleting underground water table and poor water quality in Malwa. The team would do a comprehensive review of the situation in consultation with experts and state government officials. The committee would also recommend steps for diversification of agriculture to promote alternate crops such as maize. Paddy requires a lot of water and experts have long held the belief that it was the main reason behind the falling underground water level.
Ahluwalia also asked Punjab to rationalise the use of water resources. Punjab is the second highest extractor of underground water at 33.97 billion cubic metres (BCM) per year. Only Uttar Pradesh, which is 10 times bigger in area than Punjab, extracts more water (46 BCM).
The Department of Bio-technology, Government of India, has proposed to enter into a joint venture with the Punjab Agricultural University in Ludhiana for advanced research on plant-soil-water ecology, germ plasma, gene bank, bio-technology, bio-fuse and tissue culture, food processing and marketing. The modalities would be worked out in near future.
The commission also okayed building of industrial infrastructure in border districts. The plan panel also gave an in-principle approval to creation of an industrial zone to support ancillary units around the Bathinda refinery.

As Punjab not qualify for several central schemes (norms are more in tune with the states that are tottering), the commission assured of exploring suitable modifications in various plans, including MNREGA, to enable Punjab utilise funds for restoration and revamping of its canal system.

Sikh Seva Foundation’s 1st Annual Food Drive Donates 10,000 Food Items

SURREY – A food drive organised by Sikh Seva Foundation with the support of local Sikh Community and Sikh Organisations for the Month of April donated over 10,000 food items weighing 8126 Pounds to BC Food Banks on Monday May 7.

“We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the community for their generous donations, the response was overwhelming. The community united to donate over 8100 pounds of food. We wantto thank everyone for taking part in 1st Annual Seva Community Food Drive, organized by the Sikh Seva Foundation in association with Food Banks BC. Your selfless service to the community is appreciated,” the organization said in a press release.

The month long food drive was held in April and food items were dropped off at Sikh Gurdwaras and schools in the Lower Mainland.

“We feel so honoured to see the community taking part in such a fundamental project. Food is energy, food is love and food gives hope to those who face challenges in providing nourishment to their families, seniors and others who cannot afford the basics. It is great to see the community stepping up their efforts this year to meet these challenges, to help others and to show how much they care about one another,” said one organizer.

“I feel this is so important. Every day I see people in need and I want to help. This is something I can do,” explains a youth volunteer. “Collecting food for others is just my small way of supporting the community. Everyone should help if they are able to. Whatever you donate, will be helpful.”

ਐਡਮਿੰਟਨ, 12 ਮਈ (ਵਤਨਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ)-ਐਡਮਿੰਟਨ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਸਕੂਲ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵਿਸਾਖੀ ਮੇਲਾ ਸਥਾਨਿਕ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਬੈਕੁੰਟ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਗੀਤ 'ਓ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ' ਅਤੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਗਿੱਧਾ, ਭੰਗੜਾ, ਡਾਂਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਰੰਗਾਰੰਗ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਲਾਸਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਅੱਵਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਮੀਤ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਿੱਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸਕੂਲ ਵਿਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ-ਨਾਲ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਂ ਬੋਲੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮੂਹ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲਤਾਪੂਰਵਕ ਨੇਪਰੇ ਚਾੜ੍ਹਨ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕੀਤਾ। ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਕੂਲ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਬੱਲ ਸੰਧੂ, ਸਕੱਤਰ ਗੁਰਚਰਨ ਸੰਘਾ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ ਅਮਰਜੀਤ ਸਰਾਂ, ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਗਿੱਲ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਰਵੀਨਾ ਦਿਉਲ, ਹਰਬੀਰ ਸੰਧੂ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਰ ਵੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਭਾਰੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ 'ਚ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ।

Punjab seeks better coordination with Canada

Chandigarh - Punjab Revenue and NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday sought better coordination with Canada to redress the grievances and disputes pertaining to Non Resident Indians. Majithia sought this cooperation from Canada when Consul General of Canada, Scot Slessor called on him at his residence.Majithia said that constant and better coordination between Punjab Government and Canadian Government would also create new job avenues for Punjabi youth besides strengthening the ties of both countries in agriculture, business, industrial and skill management and skill training sectors. He also emphasised on the need to initiate joint ventures between young entrepreneurs of both the countries.
He also informed that in view of exchanging agriculture techniques the Punjab and Alberta State of Canada would soon sign an MoU of Agriculture Cooperation. Majithia said that Punjab can play a major role to establish stronger bilateral relations between India and Canada.
He said that Canada was facing a shortage of skilled workers and this problem can be solved by Punjab by providing skilled workers to Canada. He said that Canada should coordinate with Punjab Government to take forward the concept of Twin City for the training of skilled workers.
Slessor invited the delegation of Punjab Government’s officials from departments like Agriculture, Education and Industry to identify the job opportunities for punjabi youth according to requirement of Canadian Government.
He said that the farmers of Punjab can also replicate the modern techniques of farming in Canada here to make farming sector more earning through scientific and environment friendly methods. He also exhorted the Punjabi youths for their hard work and enterprising spirit for further acceleration Canada’s development.

Ludhiana, May 10
A day after the Jagraon police booked four "contract marriage" agents allegedly for forcing 22-year-old Canada-based NRI Amanpal to commit suicide and dumping his body in a canal, Tajinder Singh, victim's brother and other relatives, today claimed that he was killed by the four persons.

Tajinder, a native of Jalandhar settled in Bramption, Canada, met police officials in Jagraon today. He alleged that the police was insisting that Amanpla had committed suicide.

"My brother had told me on the phone that he wanted to return to Canada, but Kulwant Singh, Aman and Karamjit Kaur, alias Kammo, had confiscated his passport. He was not someone who could commit suicide," said Tajinder.

The police has initiated its probe on the suicide theory merely on the statements of the accused even as the dead body has not been recovered so far, he added.

ਵੈਨਕੂਵਰ, 9 ਮਈ - ਨਵੰਬਰ 2012 ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਸ ਫਾਰ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਅਤੇ ਆਲ ਇੰਡੀਆ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਟੂਡੈਂਟਸ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਪਟੀਸ਼ਨ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਦਾਇਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੰਗ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਕਿ ਨਵੰਬਰ 1984 ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਹਫਤੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਸੰਗਠਿਤ ਤੇ ਯੋਜਨਾਬੱਧ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਮਲਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇ ਤੇ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਕਨਵੈਨਸ਼ਨ ਤਹਿਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ। ਇਸ ਮੰਤਵ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖਸ ਫਾਰ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਤੋਂ ਦਸਤਖਤੀ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦਾ ਆਰੰਭ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਇਕੱਠਾਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਆਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਤਹਿਤ ਨਵੰਬਰ 1984 ਦੇ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਸਾਫ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਜਦੋ ਜਹਿਦ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਸਿੱਖਸ ਫਾਰ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਨੇ ਨਵੰਬਰ 1984 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਸੰਗਠਿਤ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਲਈ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਗਠਨ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਨਵੰਬਰ 1984 ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਨੂੰ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਅੱਗੇ ਦਾਇਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਪਟੀਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਸਮਰਥਨ ਵਿਚ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਡੇਅ ਨਗਰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮੌਕੇ 'ਹਾਂ ਇਸ ਨਸਲਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ', ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਸਿੱਖਸ ਫਾਰ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਜਤਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਰੇਵਾਲ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਹੀ 10 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਦਸਤਖਤ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਸੀ। ਸਿੱਖ ਫਾਰ ਜਸਟਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਅਟਾਰਨੀ ਗੁਰਪਤਵੰਤ ਸਿੰਘ ੰਪੰਨੂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸੰਯੁਕਤ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਟੀਸ਼ਨ ਦਾਇਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮਨਾਮਾ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚਲੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਂ-ਸਮੇਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨਵੰਬਰ 1984 ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਦੀ ਜਾਂਚ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿਵਾਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਕਾਮ ਰਹੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਟੋਰਾਂਟੋ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ 'ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਨਸਲੀਕੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ' ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਯੂਰਪੀਨ ਯੂਨੀਅਨ ਦੇ ਹੋਰ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਜਾਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਜਿਥੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਪੱਧਰ 'ਤੇ ਦਸਤਖਤ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਜਾਣਗੇ।

ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਪਾਏ ਗਏ ਮਾਸੂਮ ਬੱਚੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ।


ਲੰਡਨ, 9 ਮਈ - 13 ਸਾਲਾ ਇਕ ਬੱਚੀ ਸਮੇਤ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਰਗਲਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡਰਗ, ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਸਤੂਆਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਲਚ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਬਰਦਸਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ 9 ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਇਕ ਏਸ਼ੀਅਨ ਗਰੋਹ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਵਰਪੂਲ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਨੇ ਅੱਜ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਕਰਾਰ ਦੇ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦ ਕਿ ਰੁਚਡੇਲ ਦੇ 2 ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਕਾਮਰ ਸਹਿਜ਼ਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਲਿਆਕਤ ਸ਼ਾਹ ਤੇ ਅਜੇ ਮੁਕੱਦਮਾ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਵਰ੍ਹੇ 2008 ਦੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਟੇਕਅਵੇਅ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਸਨ, ਜਦ ਕਿ 24 ਤੋਂ 59 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ ਤੱਕ ਦੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਸੀ।
ਓਲਡਹੈਮ ਦੇ ਇਕ 59 ਸਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕਈ ਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਪਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਗੁਪਤ ਰੱਖੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੀਰ ਹੁਸੈਨ 25, ਅਬਦੁਲ ਅਜ਼ੀਜ਼ 41, ਅਬਦੁਲ ਰੌਫ 43, ਮੁਹੰਮਦ ਸਾਜਿਦ 35, ਮੁਮੰਦ ਅਮਿਨ 45, ਹਾਮਿਦ ਸਫੀ 22, ਅਬਦੁਲ ਕਾਇਓਮ 44, ਲਿਆਕਤ ਸ਼ਾਹ 42 ਅਤੇ ਇਕ 59 ਸਾਲਾ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਸ਼ਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ।
ਰਮਦਾਨ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਚੀਫ ਮੁਹੰਮਦ ਸਾਫੀਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਸ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਹੈ। ਮਾਨਚੈਸਟਰ ਦੇ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਚੀਫ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕੋਈ ਨਸਲੀ ਮਾਮਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਬਲਕਿ ਵੱਡੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਛੋਟੀ ਉਮਰ ਦੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਮਾਮਲੇ ਦੀ ਸੁਣਵਾਈ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਅਦਾਲਤ ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਵੱਡੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਪੁਲੀਸ ਫੋਰਸ ਲਗਾਈ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਟੇਕਅਵੇਅ ਦੀਆਂ ਦੁਕਾਨਾਂ ਤੇ 100 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਮਲਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਭੰਨ-ਤੋੜ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਮਿਲੀ ਹੈ।

Anand Marriage Bill introduced in Rajya Sabha

The government today brought before Parliament a Bill to amend the 103-year-old statute that hitherto allowed solemnisation of Sikh marriages but not their legal validation.
The Anand Marriage Amendment Bill:2012, introduced in the Rajya Sabha today by Law Minister Salman Khurshid, amends the Anand Marriage Act, 1909, by inserting a new Section enabling registration of marriages performed as per the Sikh rituals (Anand Karaj).
The amendment Bill defines the Sikh marriage ceremony as “Anand Karaj” instead of “Anand” as in the old law. Once passed by both Houses of Parliament, it will give the Sikhs the liberty to register their marriages separately and will exempt them from registering these under the Registration of Births, Marriages and Deaths Act, 1969 (which the government plans to amend to provide for religion neutral registration of marriages across India).
The Sikhs would continue to have the option of registering their marriages under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, as before. It was registration under this Act that had been causing confusion about their religious identity abroad with their marriage certificates describing them as Hindus.
Importantly, the amendment Bill doesn’t provide for divorce among Sikh couples. For a divorce, they would have to use the Hindu Marriage Act.
Senior Supreme Court lawyer HS Phoolka, commenting on the matter, said: “Because the amendment Bill serves a limited purpose of giving Sikh religion a separate identity by allowing marriage registration under a pre-existing law, it is not a complete marriage law.
“Any religion to be recognised must have its separate ceremony of births, deaths and marriages. Sikhs didn’t have a separate marriage law so far and they wanted the Anand Marriage Act amended for the purpose. For divorce, Sikhs can use the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.”
The amendment Bill clearly states that “parties whose marriage has been registered under this Act won’t be required to get marriage registered under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, after the enactment of the proposed amendments in this Bill.” “Today we have won the battle for a separate identity as a religion,” said former MP Tarlochan Singh who led the movement for the Bill. “The SGPC is also against any divorce provision under the Anand Marriage Amendment Bill,” he said. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law had approved these amendments in 2007 when Veerappa Moily was Law Minister. “The Bill need not go again to the standing committee and can be simply taken up and passed,” Tarlochan Singh added.

No provision of divorce in the new BillFor seeking divorce, Sikhs would have to use the Hindu Marriage Act. The Union Cabinet had approved amendment to the Anand Marriage Act, 1909, on April 12 this year.

ਐਡਮਿੰਟਨ, 3 ਮਈ - ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ ਦੀ ਫੇਰੀ 'ਤੇ ਆਏ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਸਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਘਾ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਐਡਮਿੰਟਨ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰ ਬਰਾੜ ਦੇ ਸੱਦੇ 'ਤੇ ਐਡਮਿੰਟਨ ਪੁੱਜੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਲਈ ਬਰਾੜ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮਹਾਰਾਜਾ ਹਾਲ ਵਿਖੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਸਵਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਜੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਾਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ 'ਚ ਵਸਦੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੱਲ-ਅਚੱਲ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਕਰੀ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਹੱਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇਦਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਲੀਜ਼, ਸਾਂਝ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਸਬੰਧੀ ਹੱਕ ਦੇਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਅੱਜਕਲ੍ਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਜਾਇਦਾਦਾਂ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਣ ਚੁੱਕੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਇਥੇ ਵਸਦਾ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਬੈਠੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਆਮਦਨ ਵਰਤਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਸਦਾ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਉਸ ਜਾਇਦਾਦ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਸਮਝ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਇਦਾਦਾਂ ਉੱਪਰ ਕਬਜ਼ੇ ਆਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ੀ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਜਾਣ ਦਾ ਨਾਂਅ ਤੱਕ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦੇ। ਸਮਾਗਮ ਵਿਚ ਐਡਵੋਕੇਟ ਜਸਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਪੀਟਰ ਸੰਧੂ, ਸਿੱਖ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਕਰਨੈਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਿਉਲ, ਵਿਧਾਇਕ ਨਰੇਸ਼ ਭਾਰਦਵਾਜ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਚਿੰਨ੍ਹ ਵੀ ਭੇਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ਼ਮਸ਼ੇਰ ਬਰਾੜ, ਹੈਰੀ ਬਰਾੜ, ਤੀਰਥ ਬਰਾੜ, ਬਲਦੇਵ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਦਰਜਨਾਂ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ।
