ਏਸ ਪੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਓਬੇਰਾਏ , 59 ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਓਬੇਰਾਏ ਦੁਬਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਿਜਨੇਸ ਮੈਨ ਹਨ ।

 ਉਹ ਯੂਏਈ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੇਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸਜਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ 54 ਦੋਸ਼ੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਚਾ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ । 

ਹੁਣ ਉਹ 30 ਹੋਰ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੱਢਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰ ਰਹ ਹਨ । 

ਉਹ 17 ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਛਡਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ 3 . 4 ਮਿਲਿਅਨ ਦਿਰਹਮ ( 5. 7 

ਕਰੋਡ਼ ਰੁਪਏ ) ਦੀ ਬਲਡ ਮਨੀ ਦੇ ਚੁੱਕੇ ਹਨ|। ਬਲਡ ਮਨੀ  ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦਾ ਮਤਲੱਬ ਹੈ

 ਉਸ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮੁਆਵਜਾ , ਜਿਸਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਦੀ ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਹੱਤਿਆ ਕੀਤੀ 

ਗਈ ਹੋਵੇ । ਜਨਵਰੀ 2009 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਸੱਜਿਆ ਪਾਏ ਭਾਰਤੀ 

ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਆਇਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੇ 

ਪਰਵਾਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ । ਉਸਦੇ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਕਿੰਨਾ ਤਣਾਅ ਭੱਰਿਆ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ । 

ਤੱਦ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਮਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ । ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ ਭਾਰਤੀ

 ਨੂੰ ਸਗੋਂ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਲੱਖਾਂ ਕਰੋੜਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਨਵੀਂ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ . . ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ 

ਏਸਪੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਓਬੇਰਾਏ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੁਆਤ 1970 ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਕੇਨਿਕ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੀਤੀ । 

1975 ਦੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹ ਮੈਟੇਰਿਅਲ ਸਪਲਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਸਟਰਕਸ਼ਨ ਦੇ ਬਿਜਨੇਸ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜ ਗਏ । 18

 ਸਾਲ ਦੀ ਕੜੀ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦੇ ਜੋਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਦੁਬਈ ਗਰੈਂਡ ਹੋਟਲ ਅਤੇ ਏਪੇਕਸ ਗਰੁਪ

 ਆਫ ਕੰਪਨੀਜ ਹੈ । ਇੱਥੇ ਨਹੀਂ , ਉਹ ਹੁਣ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੀ ਸਭਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੀ ਇਮਾਰਤ ਬੁਰਜ ਖਲੀਫਾ ਵਿੱਚ 

ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਓਬੇਰਾਏ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਲਈ ਅਕਸਰ ਯੂਏਈ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੇਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਚੱਕਰ 

ਲਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਘਟਨਾ ਦਾ ਜਿਕਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਓਬੇਰਾਏ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ 

ਹਨ , ਯੂਏਈ ਵਿੱਚ 17ਭਾਰਤੀ ਕੈਦੀ ਜੇਲ੍ਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੰਦ ਸਨ । ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਂ - ਬਾਪ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾਉਣ 

ਦੀ ਵਿਵਸਥਾ ਕੀਤੀ । ਓਬੇਰਾਏ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਇੱਕ ਲੰਮੀ ਕਾਂਟੇਕਟ ਲਿਸਟ ਹੈ । ਇਸਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ 

ਸਾਰੇ ਛੁੱਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਜੇਕਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਸਮਾਂ 

ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਚਲੇ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾ ਛੁੱਟਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੈਦੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ 

ਅਹਿਸਾਸ ਦਵਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਦੋਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ ਬਰਬਾਦ ਹੋ ਗਈ । ਕੈਦੀ ਇਸ ਦੇ 

ਬਾਅਦ ਵਾਪਸ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਦੇ ਦਮ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਮਾਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ . . ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਇਸ ਮਹਾਨ 

ਆਦਮੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੰਮ ਨਾ ਮਿਲਣ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੀ ਕੰਪਨੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਰੋਜਗਾਰ

 ਵੀ ਉਪਲੱਬਧ ਕਰਵਾ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ . . ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਰੱਸਟ ਸਰਬਤ ਦਾ ਭਲਾ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ 18 ਹਜਾਰ ਤੋਂ

ਅਤੇ ਕਈ ਅਸਪਤਾਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ । ਉਹ ਬੁਜੁਰਗ ਕੈਂਸਰ ਪੀੜਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਘਰ ਬਣਵਾ ਰਹੇ 

ਹਨ । ਅਜਿਹੇ ਬੁਜੁਰਗ , ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ , ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ 

ਖਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਣ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ।

Though the boat capsized on January 10, the information reached family members of two of the victims after 3-4 days.

Families claimed that the men had paid Rs. 10-25 lakh each to travel agents to seek immigration to the US.

Kapurthala Police has registered a case under Sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of the Immigration Act against the travel agents.

Canada-based NRI shot dead at Moga village, police inspector among 11 booked

Moga - A Canada-based Punjabi non-resident Indian (NRI) was gunned down over a land dispute at Kaliye Wala village, 20 km from the district headquarters, late on last Tuesday evening.

Police said 11 persons, including Bhola Singh, a police inspector posted at the Chandigarh crime branch, had been booked. No arrest has been made so far.

The deceased identified as Harinder Singh Sran, 46, was a Canadian citizen living in Winnipeg province for the last 25 years. Harinder had a discord with his sister-in-law (brother’s wife) Baljinder Kaur for possession of the land owned by him.

The villagers said Harinder had come to India on April 2 to harvest the wheat crop, which he had got sown in his land with the help of his relatives. “As the wheat crop was ready to be harvested, he had sought police protection in anticipation of an attack from his detractors," they said.

Jatinder Singh Khaira, senior superintendent of police (SSP) said, “After receiving the complaint from Harinder, we sent some police personnel at Kaliye Wala village. They visited the NRI’s land immediately, but did not find anything suspicious there.”

Meanwhile, Guljinder Pal Singh, station house officer, Moga sadar police station, said, “When Harinder Singh Sran was getting the wheat crop harvested, his sister-in-law reached the spot along with two accomplices, including Kuldeep Singh alias Keepa and Kulveer Singh. After a verbal dual, the trio opened fire at the NRI, who died on the spot after being hit by a bullet on his forehead. A labourer, Salim, of Daudhar Sharki village was also injured in the sudden attack.”

The senior police officials rushed to spot following the incident and a murder case was registered against various persons.

According to the villagers, Baljinder Kaur had managed to change the mutation of the land on her name by forging the documents in connivance with revenue officials and placing someone else in place of Harinder Singh.

Harinder had lodged a complaint against the accused with the NRI police station, Moga and the police had completed the inquiry with the findings that the land belonged to Harinder Singh.

A case has been registered against Kulveer Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Baljinder Kaur, all residents of Kaliye Wala, Bhola Singh, Rajinder Singh, Chet Singh, residents of Behrampur in Ropar district and five unidentified people under sections 302, 148, 149, 120-B of IPC and 25-27-54-59 of Arms Act at Moga sadar police station.

SSP Khaira said, “Further investigation is underway. We will inquire the entire matter and if police personnel are found guilty, action will be taken accordingly.” He added that the police party had been raiding houses of the accused for the arrest.

Ease norms for MBBS seats, demand NRIs

Edmonton - After denied admission in the MBBS course in Punjab, many NRI students have approached the Medical Education and Research Department, seeking abolition of new rules under the All-India Pre-Medical Entrance Test (AIPMET) on July 6.
Earlier, all NRI quota seats in medical colleges of Punjab were filled on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in exams equivalent to Class XII of the PSEB or CBSE. Under the new rules, it is mandatory for every candidate to appear in the AIPMET and get a minimum 50 per cent marks to be eligible for MBBS and BDS courses.
The seven state medical colleges have 72 NRI quota seats, but the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) could find only two eligible candidates.
A number of other applications were rejected as the candidates had scored less than 50 per cent marks in AIPMET. Several others did not even appear in the AIPMET.
In their representation to Minister, Medical Education and Research Department, Punjab, the NRI students said they had passed their qualifying examination (equivalent to Class XII) from the US, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and other countries. They maintained that they had different curriculum than the one taught in India, so they had no exposure to the Indian examination system.
Dyal Sharma, father of Akanksha Sharma, an NRI student, said: "Since the academic period in India and in several foreign countries is different, it is not practical for NRI students to travel to India and appear in the AIPMET."

NRI Sabha, Canada urged Punjab Govt. that these conditions must be relaxed else all NRI seats will remain vacant in the state, the students said in their representation.

USA-based NRI alleges police inaction in cheating case, to approach higher authorities

Mohali, April 1 - A USA-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) has questioned tall claims of the Punjab Police in disposing of complaints lodged by NRIs.

Following the alleged inaction by the Mohali Police, the complainant, Tarun Sachdeva, a victim of cheating by alleged influential builders, has now decided to approach the country’s Prime Minister/Home Minister.

In his mail to top police officials and to an MP from Bathinda, Harsimrat Badal, Sachdeva alleged that even after four months of registering an FIR against the directors of Sukhm Infrastructure, Mohali, the police have failed to nab the accused.

The victim claimed that since the accused were very rich and influential, the police were not taking action against them, despite his consistent follow ups and personal visit to India in December last year.

Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Gursharan Singh Sandhu said, “All related documents are being checked. Certain cases take time and this is one of those, but we ensure thorough fairness in the investigations. We have already registered a case against the accused. Further action will be initiated soon,” said SSP Sandhu.

Notably, the Mohali Police have booked three directors and a general manager of the company, having a mega project-Yellow Stone Infocity at Sector 66 A, for cheating, breach of trust and criminal conspiracy at the Sohana Police Station on November 13, 2013.

The accused have been identified as Mohinder Aggarwal, Tajinder Singh and V Rastogi, all directors of the company, and Aprajit Sachdev, the company’s general manager.

In his complaint, Sachdeva alleged that he had purchased a plot in the company’s Yellow Stone project for Rs 26.40 lakh and had paid Rs 7.26 lakh as advance. He said four years have passed and the company is yet to give him the allotment letter of his plot. The company has not even returned my money, said Sachdeva, adding that since an FIR has been registered, the accused are threatening him with dire consequences.

ਮੋਹਾਲੀ - ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਗਤੀਸ਼ੀਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਿਵੇਸ਼ਕ ਸੰਮੇਲਨ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਦੇਸ਼-ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ 117 ਕੰਪਨੀਆਂ ਵਲੋਂ 65 ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਰੋੜ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਾ ਨਿਵੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਈ ਗਈ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ 'ਤੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਮਝੌਤਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਕਸਰ ਬਾਕੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਛੱਡੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਸਰਕਾਰ ਇਹ ਯਤਨ ਕਰ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, ਸਗੋਂ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦਾ ਨੰਬਰ 1 ਰਾਜ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆਵੇ। 

ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਦੌੜਾਕ ਮਿਲਖਾ ਸਿੰਘ 'ਤੇ ਬਣੀ ਫਿਲਮ 'ਭਾਗ ਮਿਲਖਾ ਭਾਗ' 'ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਇਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਨਾਅਰਾ 'ਭਾਗ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਭਾਗ' ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਊਰਜਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੁਖਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਇਕ ਨਾਅਰਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ 'ਕੈਰੀ ਆਨ ਜੱਟਾ' ਅਤੇ ਅਗਲੇ 5 ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਲ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸ਼ਵ ਦਾ ਨੰਬਰ 1 ਰਾਜ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। 

ਫਾਈਲ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ : ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਨੇ ਫਾਈਲ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਗੰਦਾ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਭਰ ਵਿਚ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਚਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਵਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੇਸ਼ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਸਿਸਟਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਨਕਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਨਵੀਂ ਦਿੱਲੀ, 1 ਨਵੰਬਰ - ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਸਾਬਕਾ ਕੈਨੇਡੀਅਨ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਰੂਬੀ ਢਾਲਾ ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ 'ਚ ਧੋਖੇ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਵਾਏ ਗਏ ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਇਕ ਸੰਸਥਾ 'ਡਰੀਮਜ਼ ਆਫ ਯੂ' ਵਲੋਂ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਲੜਕੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਜਾਗਰੂਕ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਢਾਲਾ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਕੈਨੇਡਾ 'ਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਮੂਲ ਦੀ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੀ, ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਦੌਰੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਈ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੀਆਂ, ਜੋ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਝੂਠੇ ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਰ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਮੈ 2009 'ਚ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਆਈ ਤਾਂ ਮੈ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਲਈ ਇਕ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਅਤੇ ਮੈ ਸੋਚਿਆ ਕਿ ਸਿਰਫ 15 ਜਾ 20 ਔਰਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਗਮ 'ਚ ਆਉਣਗੀਆਂ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਰਹਿ ਗਈ ਕਿ ਹਾਲ 'ਚ ਵੀ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ 'ਚ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਬੈਠੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਸੈਂਕੜੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਬਾਹਰ ਲਾਈਨ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮੈ ਇਹ ਫੈਸਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਮੈ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਾਂਗੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਕਤ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾ ਉਹ ਇਧਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਹਿੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਉਹ ਉਧਰ ਦੀਆਂ, ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਹੁਰਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੇ ਰਜਿਸਟ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਫੈਲਾਉਣਾ, ਐਨ. ਆਰ. ਆਈ. ਵਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਮਾਮਲੇ 'ਚ ਫਸੀਆਂ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਮਦਦ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਕਰਵਾਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ। ਢਾਲਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਪੰਜਾਬ 'ਚ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰੰਤੂ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ 'ਚ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਗਾਇਕ ਹਨੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ।

17 Indians in Sharjah murder case can finally return home

A long-drawn legal battle finally come to an end today as 17 Indian boys, who have been languishing in Sharjah jail for more than three years, got the final approval from the Sharjah court and were cleared for deportation.

All of them had got death sentence, which the court had waived in 2011 after Dubai businessman SP Singh Oberoi paid blood money of one million US dollars to the parents of the victim Mishri Khan.

But, permission to leave the United Arab Emirates was held up as a civil petition seeking compensation for those injured in the Mishri Khan murder case was filed.

The case pertains to 2009 when a group of Indian workers clashed with a group of workers from Pakistan in which Mishri Khan of Sargodha was killed and two of his cousins — Mushtaq Ahmed and Shahid Iqbal — were grievously injured.

Subsequently 17 Indian boys were charged for a drunken brawl leading to murder and arson. They were subsequently convicted and sentenced to death. It was under pressure from the media that the Indian mission in UAE hired a team of lawyers to defend the Indian boys who pleaded innocent. An appeal was filed in the Sharjah Appeal Court against the orders of the Sharjah Court in April 2010.

It was during hearing of the appeal that the Sharjah Court asked the defence team if it was prepared for settlement under Diya - blood money - to which it reluctantly agreed holding that it had a fool proof case.

Oberoi paid up the blood money and the court also endorsed the settlement deal and waived the death sentence in 2011. But then the civil petition was filed and it took more than a year for adjudication and forced the 17 Indian boys to have an extended stay in the Sharjah jail even after their death sentence had been waived.

SP Singh Oberoi says that with the pronouncement of a joint compensation of AED 1,00,000 for Mushtaq Ahmed and Shahid Iqbal for grievous injuries they received in the clash will now get Indian boys released.

Fearing defeat, Sheila delaying DSGMC poll: Badal

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today hit back at his Delhi counterpart Sheila Dixit saying that she was deliberately delaying elections to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). Talking to newsmen at Khiala village near Jalandhar, Badal accused the Delhi Chief Minister of helping DSGMC president Paramjit Singh Sarna whose defeat in the next DSGMC poll was inevitable. He said that as it would have an impact on the Delhi Assembly elections, Sheila wanted to delay elections to the Sikh institution. In a separate statement, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) took a strong note of the remarks of the Delhi Chief Minister asking her Punjab counterpart Parkash Singh Badal to “keep off Delhi gurdwara affairs”. The SAD described her reaction as irrational and indicative of the fact that Dixit was not aware of the history of the DSGMC. The SAD said that it was strange that the Congress leader was asking the founding fathers of the DSGMC to become mute spectators to the denigration of the management committee responsible for the maintenance of historic Sikh shrines in the national capital. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “Will someone please go and tell her that Sikh affairs are very much a business of the Sikhs, and of the Sikhs alone, and that she or her government should stay away from the internal religious matters of the Sikh community. “Let her instead use her position to ensure better law and order in Delhi. By openly talking about an issue which concerns our shrines, Dixit has only confirmed Parkash Singh Badal’s observation that the Congress government in Delhi is indeed interfering in the religious affairs of the Sikhs,” he said.
Party spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema reminded the Congress leader that it was in 1970 that the then SAD president Sant Fateh Singh led a ‘morcha’ in Delhi demanding a similar democratic body on the pattern of the SGPC for the management of Sikh shrines in Delhi.
“Parkash Singh Badal, all his senior colleagues and 16,000 other SAD leaders and workers went to jail in this morcha,” added Cheema.
“So the present DSGMC came into being in 1971 as a result of the sacrifices made by the Sant Fateh Singh, Parkash Singh Badal and other SAD workers,” he said.

Former Cong minister Henry loses citizenship

The Ministry of Home Affairs (Foreigners Division) has ceased the Indian citizenship of senior Congress leader and transporter Avtar Henry.

In a communication to Principal Secretary (Homes) DS Bains, Undersecretary, Union Government, SN Garg has said the Centre, while exercising powers under Sections 9(2) of the Citizenship Act-1955, had ceased Henry’s Indian citizenship from the date he acquired British citizenship and passport in 1969.

Henry, however, is at liberty to acquire Indian citizenship by following the procedures laid down under the law.

In the letter, Garg stated that an inquiry report forwarded by the Additional Director General of Punjab Police specified that the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, was not in possession of any record that could be used to ascertain whether Henry had submitted an application to acquire Indian citizenship or not. Henry had acquired an Indian passport in 1981 and subsequently in 2004. The passport can be issued only to an Indian citizen.

But the records of the Foreigners Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the division had not granted Indian citizenship to Avtar Henry from 1981 onwards.

The letter sent by Garg to Bains stated that the fact that he had acquired a British passport conclusively proved that he had acquired British citizenship and thereby automatically ceased to be an India citizen under Sections 9(1) of the Citizenship Act-1955 from the date of the acquisition of British citizenship.

Case history

Henry had landed in a trouble following allegations of dual citizenship levelled by his son Gurjit Singh Sanghera. The Union Home Ministry had summoned him to Delhi to clear his stand.

Henry was asked to appear before the ministry on July 10, 2012. Henry had appeared before SM Garg and recorded his statement.

In November 2009, Sanghera had accused his father of possessing two passports. In his complaint, Sanghera had alleged that Avtar Singh ‘Sanghera’ had been to England on an Indian passport, which he had procured from the passport office in Delhi by posing as Lakhbir Singh Sanghera’s son. Lakhbir Singh Sanghera is, in fact, Henry’s elder brother and his father’s name is Joginder Singh.

The complainant had further alleged that Henry had made a false averment in the British passport that his “father”, Lakhbir Singh Sanghera, had died in 1905. Lakhbir Singh had actually died in November 2006.

The complaint further read that Avtar Henry (‘son’ of Lakhbir Singh) took British citizenship on the old passport issued by the Indian Government. He later managed to get a passport from the British government and returned to India in September 1969. He yet again got a passport prepared from the Jalandhar passport officer, showing himself as the son of Joginder Singh (the real father) and born in Pakistan.

The complainant had sought charges under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 494 of the IPC against Henry. The Jalandhar police acted on the complaint, but the files were gathering dust at the SSP’s office.

The case was later reopened by the city police after Sanghera, through his friend Ajay Sehgal, an RTI activist, moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The court had directed the Union Home Ministry, Punjab Chief Secretary and the DGP to complete an ongoing probe into a complaint against Henry in four months.

Son relieved

Gurjit Singh Sanghera has expressed satisfaction at the union government’s decision to cease Henry’s Indian citizenship. Talking to The Tribune, Sanghera claimed that he would move an application before the city police Commissioner seeking his arrest.

BJP veteran Bakshi Ram Arora is Amritsar Mayor

The BJP high command today appointed veteran leader Bakshi Ram Arora as the city Mayor, putting to rest the tussle between two factions of the local unit lobbying hard for respective candidates.
The three-time BJP councillor’s name was proposed by SAD Chief Parliamentary Secretary Inderbir Bolaria and seconded by BJP Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi during the first meeting of the fifth Amritsar Municipal Corporation House at Town Hall.
SAD councillors Avtar Singh Truckanwala and Avinash Jolly were unanimously elected Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively. Their names were proposed by Joshi and seconded by Bolaria.

The presiding officer, Jalandhar Divisional Commissioner SR Ladhar, administered the oath to the newly elected councillors.

ਕਿਸ਼ਨਪੁਰਾ ਕਲਾਂ (ਮੋਗਾ), 22 ਅਗਸਤ - ਪਿੰਡ ਭਿੰਡਰ ਕਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਸ ਸਮੇ ਸੋਗ ਦੀ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੌੜ ਗਈ ਜਦ 'ਭੂਤ' ਕੱਢਣ ਲਈ ਅੱਜ ਸ਼ਾਮੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਸਰਪੰਚ ਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਲਗਭਗ 10 ਸਾਲਾ ਬੱਚੀ ਨੂੰ ਗਰਮ ਚਿਮਟਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੁੱਟ-ਕੁੱਟ ਕੇ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਇਆ। ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅੱਜ ਬਾਵਰੀਆ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਧਰਮਸ਼ਾਲਾ ਵਿਚ ਬਾਬਾ ਗੁੱਗਾ ਜ਼ਾਹਿਰ ਪੀਰ ਦਾ ਮੇਲਾ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੀ ਸਰਪੰਚ ਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸਿਰ ਘੁਮਾਉਣਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਜੋਗੀ ਪੀਰ ਦੱਸਦੀ ਹੋਈ ਨੇ ਬੱਚੀ ਵੀਰਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਵਾਸੀ ਮਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਾਲਾਂ ਤੋ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਘਸੀਟਿਆ ਤੇ ਗਰਮ ਚਿਮਟਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਟਣਾ ਸ਼ੂਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਇਹ ਬੱਚੀ ਪਿੰਡ ਭਿੰਡਰ ਕਲਾਂ ਵਿਖੇ ਮੇਲੇ 'ਤੇ ਆਈ ਹੋਈ ਸੀ। ਅੰਧ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੁਝ ਲੋਕ ਇਹ ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਦੇਖਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਪਾਣੀ-ਪਾਣੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਬੱਚੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਲਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਤੇ ਅਖੀਰ ਬੱਚੀ ਨੇ ਦਮ ਤੋੜ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਜਦ ਇਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਦਾ ਪਤਾ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਮੋਹਤਵਰ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਤੁਰੰਤ ਘਟਨਾ ਸਥਾਨ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਤੇ ਥਾਣਾ ਧਰਮਕੋਟ ਦੀ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਇਤਲਾਹ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਐਸ. ਐਚ. ਓ. ਜਸਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਥਾਣਾ ਧਰਮਕੋਟ ਦੀ ਅਗਵਾਈ 'ਚ ਪੁਲਿਸ ਨੇ ਮੌਕੇ 'ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਕੇ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦਾ ਜਾਇਜ਼ਾ ਲਿਆ ਤੇ ਸਰਪੰਚਣੀ ਪਾਲ ਕੌਰ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਤੀ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਹਿਰਾਸਤ 'ਚ ਲੈ ਲਿਆ। ਪੰਚ ਰਛਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ, ਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪੰਚ, ਪਰਮਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਰਾਂ, ਹਰਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ ਬੂਟਾ, ਬਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਦਿ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੀ ਤਿੱਖੇ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ 'ਚ ਨਿਖੇਧੀ ਕੀਤੀ।

Man held for NRI’s murder

Hoshiarpur, August 18
With the arrest of Rajinder Singh, alias Vicky of Rehali under Chabbewal police station, the district police claims to have solved the blind murder of NRI Gurdev Kaur Parmar of Baddon village. Parmar was found dead at her residence on August 11. SP (D) Jagmohan Singh said Mehtiana police has arrested Rajinder Singh under Section 302 of the IPC for the murder of Gurdev Kaur Parmar.

After receiving the news of her death, her three sons, who lived abroad, returned to their home on August 16, to perform her last rites. The police conducted the proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC at the time of the funeral. But after receiving the postmortem report of Gurdev Kaur Parmar, which established that she was strangled to death and marks of injuries were also found on her body, Mehtiana police registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC on Friday.

The police set up nakas at various places under the Mehtiana police station. During checking at a naka, the police seized a pair of gold earrings belonging to the deceased from the possession of Rajinder Singh. During interrogation, Rajinder Singh confessed that after killing Gurdev Kaur, he had removed her gold earrings, Jagmohan Singh said.
